It is ILLEGAL to dispose of Medical Waste or Sharps in your trash, recycling, or yard waste containers! Athens Services encourages the proper disposal to ensure the safety of their clients, employees, and the environment. If hazardous waste is identified in your trash, it will be tagged and not collected.
What is Medical Waste and Sharps?
Sharps include hypodermic needles, pen needles, intravenous needles, lancets, and other devices that are used to penetrate the skin for the delivery of medications.
Medical Waste includes “any solid waste that is generated in the diagnosis, treatment, or immunization of human beings or animals, in research pertaining thereto, or in the production or testing of biologicals." For the U.S. EPA definition and examples of Medical Waste click here.

S.A.F.E Centers - Permanent Collection Centers in the City of Los Angeles. Hazardous Waste recycling and disposal options available for residents and businesses (by appointment only). They will dispose of medication and sharps. Locations, hours and times are limited.
